Dachuan Zhang and Eric Chan receive the Grantham Foundation Detox Award

Prof. Eric Chan and Dr. Dachuan Zhang from the Bezos Centre for Sustainable Protein at the National University of Singapore (NUS) have been awarded the prestigious Grantham Foundation Detox Award for their project titled “A Next-Generation Predictive Framework for Toxin Risk Assessment and Detoxification in Food and Human Health.”

The award is jointly organized by Future Fit Asia, Deep Science Ventures, and the Grantham Foundation for the Protection of the Environment, aiming to support breakthrough innovations that help “detox” food systems, agriculture, and the environment. The program provides catalytic, non-dilutive funding to outstanding academic teams and early-stage startups developing transformative solutions for toxicity-related challenges.

The winning project focuses on developing an advanced predictive and intervention framework that integrates artificial intelligence, computational toxicology, and detoxification strategies to assess and mitigate toxin risks in food and human health systems. The framework is expected to contribute to safer food systems, improved environmental health, and more sustainable agricultural practices.

This recognition highlights the growing international impact of interdisciplinary AI-driven research in food science, toxicology, and sustainability, and underscores the importance of cross-disciplinary collaboration in addressing global environmental and health challenges.
