At the Foodinformatics and AI (FoodAI) Group, our mission is to develop, apply, and refine AI-driven tools and methodologies to enhance our food systems. We are also dedicated to curating fundamental data sets in food science, enabling data-driven insights and fostering AI applications.

We believe creating responsible AI in food systems is akin to grinding flour on a mill—it requires not only talent but, more importantly, patience and a spirit of craftsmanship.

About the PI

Dr. Dachuan Zhang is an Assistant Professor and the Group Leader of the Food Informatics and Artificial Intelligence (FoodAI) Group at the National University of Singapore. He received his Ph.D. in Computational Biology from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and completed his postdoctoral training at ETH Zurich. As a data scientist with a deep food science background, his research focuses on developing tailored databases and data-driven models to unveil the chemical complexity of our diet. His work also explores novel and pragmatic approaches to advancing sound food safety decisions, enabling sustainable food systems, and strengthening the science-policy interface on food and agriculture.

He has published over 30 articles in top journals, including Science Advances, ACS Catalysis, ACS Sustain Chem Eng, Bioinformatics, Brief Bioinformatics, Food Chem, J Agric Food Chem, J Hazard Mater, and Trends Food Sci and Technol. Additionally, he serves as associate editor of Food Safety and Health, an editorial board member of six journals, such as the Journal of Food Science, and a guest editor of Future Foods, a member of the EFSA’s stakeholder community, and an overseas mentor for Jiangnan University’s AI & food program. His contributions have been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the IUFoST Young Scientist Award, ACS Irving Sigal Global Mobility Award, and President’s Award of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
